Beautifully written, both spare and descriptive. Dripping in both atmosphere and characterization. I can see why you're finding a berth for your literary ship, Serena! Well done!
I loved your Wolf story - it is so in tune with how I think and feel. You are a very gifted writer - are you writing more stories ? I went through an intense period studying Native American culture - I am still passionate about it all. It is so like Druidry - they share the same love of the Earth and all her creatures and plants - and also acknowledge the presence of the wonderful totem animals.
Also on facebook.... Peter Holbrook: Friend of mine Serena Cairns has a short story "Wolf" published in a book "Wyrd Stories", no hesitation in recommending the book or any of Serena's work.. congrats Serena, onward and upward!!! btw, may contain horror :-)
And by email from Denise Rayner: Serena Cairns' short story "Wolf" is unusual. It doesn't contain anything that the name might suggest. There is no gnashing of teeth or dripping blood. Instead, the author has touched the readers imagination and created the atmosphere perfectly, placing you right at the scene, evoking the scenery, smells and emotions exactly as described.
The sign of a good story is when the reader wants to know what happens next - and I do!
Enjoyed the story Serena. Very good read.

ReplyDeleteSerena, great little tale, and with a sting in the end. Watch out for the Harley rally in Ottery on Tuesday 6th August.

ReplyDeleteExcellent tale, not at all what I expected. Well done, your work deserves a wider audience,
ReplyDeleteLoved Serena's tale. It pulled me in right away with strong characters and vivid description. The ending packed a good punch as well.
